Lighthouse design

By Nicolas Hart

Last week, we made lighthouses out of junk modelling materials and started thinking about how they could be powered in a more sustainable way.

As a group, we quickly knew which shapes and materials to use to design our lighthouse. We used a crisp tube for the tower and 4 jelly cartons on top of each other for wind turbines. We placed a plastic cup on top of the tower as a glass top.

We strapped a light bulb to a cardboard ring we had cut out and attached it to the top of the tower with sticky tape. We hid the rest of the circuit inside the tube.

I am looking forward to making a real one with wire framing and proper lighting!
