The arctic's favorite, Captain Robert Falcon Scott

Do you want to know what happened after Captain Robert Falcon Scott died?

Robert led two expeditions where he and his crew tried to travel to the north pole.

Would you like to know what caused him to die? Read on to find out...

Robert was born on the 6th of June 1868 in Plymouth. That was where Scott of the antarctic would soon grow older, ready for his adventures to the north pole. In those days no-one had ever led an expedition to the north pole so Robert dreamed to be the first. After his idea occurred to him he realised he didn't have the money to lead an expedition there, so an idea came to him! He thought that maybe he could raise enough money to visit the north pole and so spent years trying. In the end Robert raised enough money to travel there. He and his crew travelled on an expedition called the "discovery expedition",where they tried to travel to the north pole. Did you know that they didn't actually reach there destination in their first expedition! Their second expedition was called "the Terra Nova expedition". It was known as ill-fated.This is because when they finally reached the north pole they found out some appalling news. Roald Amundsen and his crew had already reached the north pole and they were known as the first! Sadly, they travelled back home with lots of disappointment and died of starvation, exhaustion and from the extremely cold weather! He died on the 29th March 1912 in the Arctic.

Although Scott had a tragic ending he is known today because of those expeditions he led and his fantastic leadership! That is why he is known as a british hero! "But take comfort in that I die at peace with the world and myself-not afraid.'Robert said. That means that he didn't want to be afraid when he died and didn't want anyone to be upset. He wanted to leave the world in peace!
