The River Towy
The River Towy is one of the longest rivers in Wales!
The river flows through three towns in Wales, Llandovery ,Llandeilo and Carmarthen.
The river forms
a natural
border between
Powys and
Ceredigion.
In 1972 a section of the river was
dammed to form the Llyn Brianne
reservoir which produces lots of
SE Wales with drinking water.
The Towy has many tributaries,including the Afon Gwili, the Cothi and the Doethie.
The Towy is well-known for its sea trout (Sewin) and Atlantic salmon. The river also contains pike, eels, river lampreys and sea lampreys.
Otters can be seen in the river Towy and sometimes grey seals swim up the river in search of sea trout and salmon.
The source of the river
The lower slopes of Crug Gynan in the Cambrian mountains is the source of the River Towy.

The mouth of the river is Carmarthen Bay.
