Types of Bullying

There are many types of bullying including cyber bullying, physical bullying, mental bullying and many more.

Cyber bullying is bullying on the internet. It’s when people say mean things about people, to them or behind their backs, through messages or texts. The people that do cyber bullying think it’s harmless because they are not saying it to anyone's face so they can’t see the hurt that they cause. Cyber bullying can also happen when someone takes an unflattering photo of you - that you don’t want anyone to see - and posts it on the internet without your permission.

Physical bullying is when someone inflicts physical harm upon you. It includes: punching, kicking, scratching and much more. Physical bullying can be very dangerous and people can end up being very hurt. Physical bullying may happen if someone gets angry or upset and takes it out on someone else. It can also happen if someone retaliates against someone who upset or offended them but this does not mean it is the right thing to do.

Mental bullying is when someone says something very mean to you. They don’t use hands, they only use words. Even though it is very, very wrong to bully, people don't know how much it can hurt. Sometimes people can say really, REALLY rude things that can even change someone’s life. It includes name calling, teasing and leaving someone out of a group of friends or game you are playing to make them feel bad.

If you are reading this just remember that you deserve to be valued and that you are unique. If you are being bullied or know someone who is being bullied report it. Always remember teachers and adults are there for you. You can call Childline or the NSPCC if you feel really threatened. Childline’s number is 0800 1111 and NSPCC’s number is 0808 800 5000.

REMEMBER - BULLYING IS WRONG!

By Sabrin and Isabella.

Next Monday we are going to wear odd socks, in honour of anti-bullying week. This is to celebrate the importance of being able to be ourselves. We are all unique and we believe that no-one should be scared to just be themselves. Bullying occurs when a person, or a group of people, try to hurt someone physically or emotionally; try to upset someone over and over again; or pick on someone because of the way they look, beliefs they have or where they come from.
