Year 6 Independent Travel Training

A couple of months ago, some of our Year Six children travelled to Mulberry Place to take part in a workshop to prepare them for travelling to secondary school independently. They walked around the local area, looking for hazards and important travel information, and travelled on a private TfL bus, where they met a driver, British Transport Police Officer and several other safe adults who could support them on public transport. At the end of the session, the children completed a quiz and were presented with certificates. They even got to 'drive' the bus for a bit!

On the way back to school, the children took charge and ensured we crossed the roads safely, as well as making use of the DLR and Tube maps to find the route back. It was fantastic preparation for the future and their transition to Year 7.
