Robert Falcon Scott

Hey you! Does the name Robert Falcon Scott ring any bells? Perhaps you've seen his name around a website, a book or a magazine. Would you like to know MORE? If yes, read on reader! 😃

Robert Falcon Scott was born 6th of June in 1868. By the time he was 13 he became a naval cadet! Isn't that astounding? He served quite a lot of Royal Navy ships for 1880 - 1890, his reputation rocketed up, that concluded into the fact that the Royal Geographical Society decided to appoint him as National Antarctic Expedition!! I don't know about you, but I'm impressed!

His first expedition (1901-1904) went pretty well. (SPOILER ALERT!) It's a shame that his secondly expedition didn't run as smoothly. He spent a whole lot of money and time on that second expedition, the expedition that turned out to be a COMPLETE AND UTTER DISASTER! In 1910 he set sail on his ship : The Terra Nova. He selected a party of 5 people to go with him, and of they went to the South Pole!

Scott's party!

The half-way journey was easy enough, they rode horses and had dogs pulling their possessions on sleighs. Then when the weather started to take its toll, they had to send the dogs and ponies back. That was when the real struggles started! Weather was horrible, and it didn't exactly help with the fact that they were racing against Roald Amundsend (The Norwegian party) In the end they were beaten by a month or so! Isn't that horrible? Imagine finding that you were beaten by a measly month!

They started to descend back to home. The party were struggling: weather was constantly freezing and icy. Sadly, they eventually passed away in a blizzard in 1912 29th of March. Do you need a tissue yet?
