Microsocieties

In microsocieties we read the story of a place called Justenuf.

It was about a planet where there was enough of everything for everyone and people never fought about who got what due to a special machine keeping everything in order called abun dance.

One day abun dance broke down and the whole planet went into chaos.

The person who ran the country, the captain, resolved to simply change the planet name to Notenuf, and never seemed to make a proper solution.

Instead,we talked about what he could have done, some saying to just fix abun dance (including me),others saying to install a working system like money. There were even some ideas about giving people things due to popularity!

Later on in the day we did an activity where we had to cut out shapes to get points. We were each given a fixed amount of products to do this and the things we got were all different. My group had a lot of everything except the key thing, paper.

We ended up with 35 points on the board and were in tied 3rd place.

Then we learnt about 1st,2nd and 3rd world countries and how my group had been a highpothetical 1st world country.

The next day we came up with a name for our society.

I was excpecting everyone to have a good idea and for us to have to compromise by mashing up every name to create one,but surprisingly no-one had a good name on my table. We ended up making some crazy names like Whakamainia. I made up a name aswell, Brightland.

I don't know why,it was just the first name to come to my head.

Even weirder, half my table loved the name, and chose it to be the one they would tell the teacher about.

Then the class voted on all the names each table had come up with, and just my luck,my horrible name of Brightland wins.

Then we designed flags for this new country and thats all we've done so far.

This all was a lot of fun and I'm sure it will get even better.
