Welcome to Year 2!

Hello and welcome back, we hope you have had a relaxing and fun summer break. Miss Mackie and Mrs Rice are both very excited to be back and get learning... and we have already learnt lots in our first few weeks of Year 2, here are some of the highlights so far...

In literacy we started reading our book 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'. It's all about a hard-working lighthouse keeper and some pesky seagulls who keep stealing poor Mr Grinling's lunch. Ask us what was in Mr Grinling's basket to check our memories!

We were very lucky today as we got to Skype Mr Grinling to interview him about his experience. Now we are ready to write an informative news report all about it.

In maths we have been playing lots of fun games with number and place value. We've been using ten sticks and one cubes, number lines and counters to help us. We have even had a go at solving some tricky problems. Ask us how many tens and ones are in 56 to check our memories!

In our topic work we have been learning about what we need to keep fit and healthy. We have been talking about what makes us happy and what types of food and exercise we enjoy. In PE we have been learning about gymnastics, and this week we practised some beautiful balances! We hope you enjoy our photos below:
