Chapter 2
– Knockout
Bill and Bob couldn’t believe what they saw! ‘We need to get closer!’ says Bill ‘But how?’
‘There’s another air vent closer to the blackboard’ says Bob.
As they crawl through the air vent, they notice that the vents are heading in a
downward slope – they slide to the bottom, trying hard not to cry out in case
they are heard.
Bob slowly opens the vent and Bill and Bob slither quietly behind the blackboard like a
snake waiting for its prey. The boys needed to know how the machine worked, so they watch while the cats use the machine.
A brown cat with a white lab coat and science googles comes up to the machine and says in a
high pitch American accent ‘Computer, set co-ordinates to Australia!’
A black cat in another lab coat with white paws, pushes a purple button with a lightning
bolt on it. The machine makes a whirring sound like the sound of an elevator
lifting off.
Slowly, a metal stick starts appearing at the top of the machine, they both notice that
there is a metal knob at the tip. Another scientific looking ginger cat comes
over to the machine and pulls down a red lever.
The metal knob starts sparking electricity.
The black cat suddenly shouts ‘FIRE!!’ and the ginger cat presses a big red button. The
metal knob starts to vibrate vehemently and turns bright red as if it is very
hot. A green laser starts shooting out of it and into a hole in the City Hall
roof.
The boys looked stunned; Bill breaks the silence by saying ‘I wonder where that laser is
going?’, Bob looks at him and whispers ‘Didn’t you hear? The black cat said they
were going to send it to Australia. It must be how they are sending the virus around the world.’
Suddenly, a deep American male voice startles them from the right of them. ‘Well, well,
well, what do we have here?’. Standing before them is a big beefy man. He is
big, with huge muscular arms and wearing a black mask. The man raises his arms into the air and clenches his fists and swings them at the boys.
The boys are slow to react, and they are hit hard in the head, clunking their heads together and knocked out cold!
