The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is an international agreement that protects the human rights of children under the age of 18. The UNCRC was ratified by the UN General Assembly in 1989 and on the 16th December 1991, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland formally agreed to make sure that every child in the UK has all the rights as listed in the convention.
In Blaenymaes Primary, we feel it is very important that the children know and understand their rights. We believe that by understanding their own rights, children learn to respect and appreciate the rights of others.
At the start of every school year, each class decide which rights are the most important to them. These are then displayed on the class charter. To see our class charters please go to the class charter section on our website.
Every class assembly is linked to a right and the children are taught about their rights throughout the curriculum. Rhodri our rights respecting dragon is also on hand to remind us.
