On Friday 13th February me, my class, some people from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and my teacher, went on a bird watching trip through the Parkland Walk. It was great!

We saw sixty-five birds, including twenty-six wood pigeons, a load of magpies, great tits and blue tits and varieties of other really interesting species!

What was the weather like? It was quite sunny. Luckily for us

there was no rain that day so we could see lots of birds. It was only

a little windy so we could hear the bird sounds pretty well too.

It wasn't very cold so we could pay attention to the purpose of

our trip.

We saw groups of wood pigeons, three or four at a time. They were quite big, a lot bigger than the normal pigeons you see scampering around on the street. They were mainly grey-coloured, but had some white patches too. I couldn't really hear them that well, but I have been told that they have a very beautiful sound, like a deep-sounding wind instrument, low and rich, a deep forest sound.

The magpies we saw were mainly on their own, normally flying and not in the trees. They were a lot smaller than the wood pigeons and were equally black and white in colour. Like the woodpigeons, I couldn't hear them very well.

The tits sounded as though they were saying "teacher! teacher! teacher! teacher!", which was amusing. They were very small creatures. The blue tits were blue, unsurprisingly. The great tits were yellow and black and white in colour.

                             It was a great trip!
