Islington School Games Girls Yr 5/6 Football

Our girls couldn’t emulate the boys, but performed well enough to make it through to the Finals Day where they were knocked out of their group. Like the boys, the girls attended on the Wednesday with a squad containing many who had not played in such a competition before.

We were placed in a group of five, with our first game against Robert Blair Primary. The girls dominated possession but couldn’t find the net until Thora with her first kick of the game made it 1-0. Minutes later Madeline sealed a good start with a second.

Next up were Tufnell Park Primary, whose experience and quality got the better of us, with them winning 2-0. A draw against New North Academy meant we needed to avoid defeat in our final game against Pakeman Primary to go through to the Finals Day. A convincing display saw us win 2-0 thanks to goals from Madeline and Natalia.

So the girls returned the following day and had a tough start losing 3-0 to St Josephs Primary. We then bounced back with a defeat of eventual finalists Laycock Primary with a goal from Natalia.

A draw against Newington Green Primary followed, meaning we needed to win our last game against St Marks Primary to progress into the semi’s. Unfortunately, we went down 1-0 and thus ended any hopes of progressing any further.

A pleasing start to the season for the goals who did very well to finish where they did, and we can look ahead to more matches as the year goes on.

Squad: - Francesca, Mae, Layla, Millie, Natalia (captain), Thora, Sophia, Madeline, Jodie, and Ella.
