CHESWICK GREEN PRIMARY SCHOOL GOVERNORS BLOG

The Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is particularly busy this term. In addition to monitoring this year’s expenditure, we must derive a balanced budget for the financial year that commences at the beginning of April.

We have been informed that, over the next three years, a typical one-form-entry primary school will have to find an additional £49k that will not be funded. Thus, some difficult decisions may have to be made.

At each of our meetings we consider the detail of the state of the school’s three major accounts (Revenue, Capital, and Extended Services) and are of the opinion that, at present, there is no cause for particular concern. As part of our management of the school’s finances we have recently authorised expenditure for work on guttering and canopies at the Green Trees Centre and the Foundation Unit.

We have carried out a benchmarking exercise to compare our school’s expenditure on selected categories, (such as staffing, energy, administrative supplies) with that of other similar schools and we did not identify any issues that warranted further investigation.
