The reader first meets Michael in Chapter 1 where he seems lonely, sad and very much of an introvert he looks sad and the the way the author portrayed Michael was as a quiet and anti social boy. As the novel develops so does Michael's character. He becomes more open to different people and more likable to the readers. By the end of the book, Michael is a loved character by fans because he is caring, and a great big brother. He changes because of the help Mina , Skellig, his mother, father and his baby sister being alive.
