Evolution
Evolution was a process that occurred overtime. It was when an animal or plant slowly changed appearance or behaviour overtime.
For example, at the beginning the was a giraffe with a really short neck so in order to reach leaves from the tree branch above it, it had to be taller. So overtime the giraffes' neck gradually became longer so it could reach the branch.
DNA is something that is passed on to future generations. But if mistakes occur, the offspring could look a little different. When a child is born it has some traits from her mother and some from her father, but it's not identical. The child can also develop some of its own traits which can be passed on his children. Small changes in a human can pass on to other generations.
If you were to look back a few thousand years ago you'd find that some species looked completely different from what they look like now.
Adaption
Adaption is when an species of animal had to adapt new things in life. Organisms would slowly change until the an animal is better suited to its habitat.
Adaption is like a trait (feature). For example a horse's teeth are made to grind grass because its a carnivore. It has adapted to eat easily. Also the same for the horse's running. It has adapted to run faster over generations.
Adaption occurs because animals that have adapted are most likely to survive and reproduce successfully.
Some animals are made to camouflage in order to survive. They sometimes hide in their habitats to hide from their predators.
Inheritance
Inheritance is when an ancestor or a parent passes on a feature to future offspring. This is usually known as inheritance.
So when an offspring is born, it usually looks a little bit like the mother and a little bit like the mother but never identical. It could be something like a
feature. For example: the offspring could
have the same nose as the father but have the same eyes from the mother. Or sometimes the
features could be from neither your mom
or dad, but an ancestor. E.g. years ago,
your great, great grandmother could've
had blue eyes but your mother and father
both have brown eyes. If an offspring ends up with blue eyes it must've gotten them from an ancestor.
The mother and father had passed on to their offspring. They all have parts from the mom and dad, but one has none.
