Natural Selection

Charles' trips on the HMS Beagle

This image [on the right] is an example

of natural selection which branches from

the theory of evolution. Natural selection

is when creatures enter a new habitat

with different advantages and

disadvantages. Species that have

disadvantages in the habitat will get

reproduced less, leaving the superior

species to evolve e.g. red squirrels in

the UK are more rare after the accidental

release of grey squirrels.

In 1831, Professor Handler sent Charles Darwin a letter to set sail on the HMS Beagle. His Dad, not accepting it twice,

finally agreed for his son to set sail on the ship. His most famous discoveries were in the West Indies, Galapagos Islands. Here is where he discovered giant tortoises,

Galapagos iguanas, marine iguanas,

Darwin's finches and the frigate birds.
