2) Calculating food miles - In class we have been talking about food miles and how they can have an impact on our environment. Some of the families we have found out about in Africa, have most meals cooked from ingredients they grow in their gardens.

I would like you to choose a meal you have during the week and try to calculate the food miles travelled for the different ingredients. It could be your packed lunch or something you have at home.

Look at the labels on the food to find the country of origin.

What can you find out about how far your food has travelled?

You could use Google Earth to help you calculate distances.

How far altogether has your food travelled?

Can you choose a way you think is best to show your results? Maybe draw a table, create a table on J2E5 (see below for suggestion) If you want to add more to your information you could find out extra information about the countries.
