Our cricketers donned their whites and headed off to Wray Crescent for the Islington Boys Cricket Tournament.

We started by taking on St Johns Highbury Vale in a real humdinger of game which went to the final ball. Batting first, we were probably a little guilty of being to attacking which cost us some crucial wickets and saw us finish on 232, which would not be easy to defend. However the boys pulled out all the stops bowling really well and backing it up with some good fielding. It all fell down to the last over with SJHV needing 5 of it.

The job of being the match winner was given to captain Louis. With a wicket resulting in 5 runs loss, we knew the game was not over. His first ball saw no runs scored but then he bowled wide which resulted in two runs and an extra ball. So it was now 3 off 4. Confusion between the SJHV batsman gave us a run out opportunity which was missed. So 3 off 3. Two runs followed, and then another dot ball (cricketing term if no run is scored off a delivery). The equation was 1 off 1. The field closed in, the batsman struck it to one of our fielders who was yards away, it looked like victory was ours all that was needed was the ball to hit the stumps, but we missed and SJHV scampered home.

Extreme disappointment for the boys, but we had to pick ourselves up for the next game against Vittoria Primary. To their credit they did and put in a convincing all round performance which saw us run out comfortable winners, scoring 252, to Vittoria’s 190.

So all that remained was a play off against Pakeman Primary for third place. Batting first we posted 240, which seemed like a defendable score. This proved to be the case as the bowlers stuck to their task and victory was assured thanks to a brilliant run out from Cameron, as Pakeman finished on 220.

Squad :- Louis (Captain), James, Ishmael, Jordan, Kayvon, Sid, Cameron, Patrick and Archie.
