Place Value
1. Get 10 small pieces of paper and write the
digits 0 – 9 on them.
2. Lay them out face down on the table or fold
them and put them into a “lucky dip”box/bag.
3. Choose 4 of them to turn over/pull out of the
bag.
4. Use the 4 digits to make a 4 digit number.
Write your number in words.
Example:
3456 Three thousand four hundred and
fifty six.
5. Rearrange your digits to create a new number.
· How many different numbers can you create using the same 4 digits?
· Sequence your numbers, looking carefully at the place value of each digit.
Fancy a challenge?
Instead of choosing 4 digits - choose 5 or even 6 digits.
Not too confident yet?
Begin with a 3 digit number and work your way up to using 4 digit numbers.
On J2e, type the numbers that you have made.
Choose your own way of laying out your work.
