LEWIS LATIMER

Lewis was born in 1848 to a family of slaves.

He served the Navy for two years before taking a job as an office boy.

Latimer got his first break when he became an assistant to Alexander Graham Bell. Although Alexander designed the first telephone, Latimer improved it.  

He went on tocame one of the work for Thomas Edison and later became one of the "Edison Pioneers". Edison invented the firs eletric lamp but Latimer desinged a light bulb filament that was stronger and didn't burn out so easily.

Lewis Latimer's other inventions included toilets for use in trains and air conditioning.
