A Moment with Miss Craig!

This week we interviewed Fleet's Class teacher, Miss Craig...

If you weren’t a teacher what would you be?

A cartographer (map drawer) because I love maps.

Where are you originally from?

Sunderland. Up north - way north.

What is your favourite holiday destination?

My family caravan in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

What are your hobbies? Cricket, hockey and watching box sets.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, I have a loud cat called George.

What do you like best about teaching?

The children.

What is your favourite subject?

I know it sounds cheesy but I like all the subjects.

What is your favourite sport? Controversially, I like hockey.

What is your favourite sports team?

Durham County cricket.

Have you always been a teacher?

Yes.

What did you study in University?

Geography.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

A P.E Teacher

On the 12th to the 14th of November Derwent and Medway class had an amazing trip to Marchant's Hill. They stayed there for 2 nights and they were completely exhausted when they returned to school. The children really enjoyed the trip and said it was,

"Fantastic, awesome, fun and amazing."

Marchant’s Hill is an Activity Centre for primary school children who want to have an adventure. It is a child friendly place and has a sports hall, multiple classrooms, an open playing field, a shop, a disco room, spacious rooms that sleep 4 to 8 people and much, much more. The children took part in activities such as the Zipwire (the name tells all) , the survivor challenge (they had to work together to build a fire and a shelter during this puzzling task), the giant swing (again, the name says it all), quad biking (which involved a few crashes) and fencing (swords). They took part in many other activities too and were in bed and asleep by nine o'clock on both nights!

The children would like to say a very big thank you to all of the teachers that came with them and took part in the activities - Mr Regan, Miss Cameron, Mr Jiggins, Miss Caulfield, Mrs Schofield and Miss Porkolab.

THERE'S MORE GOOD STUFF ON PAGE 2!

Thank you so much for wearing onesies and spots on Friday the 16th November in honour of Children in Need, we raised at least £450. Usually, a lot of people dress up as Blush or Pudsey bear, the two characters that represent Children in Need. People sometimes bring in money to donate to children that need help. Hopefully, you donated at least one pound. It would really help and it should give you a sense of happiness to know that are helping children who are not as fortunate as you.

Children in need is dedicated to people who have a disability or diseases and their families who need to look after them and can’t go on holidays like you and me. BBC Children in Need is the BBC’s UK corporate charity. Thanks to the support of the public, they are able to make a real difference to the lives of children across the UK. There is a Countryfile Ramble every year for this fantastic event where lots of Pudsey supporters take a long walk through hills and forests.

The money raised goes to support projects working with disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. The money helps lots of young children and teenagers survive without a family. If people didn’t raise money, loads and loads of children wouldn’t be able to survive. I think everyone should be proud of the donations they put towards children in need. Even if you put less than £1, you should still be proud, because a little can make a difference. In the UK, more than 14 million pounds were raised. Thank you again for all that you have done.

BOOK REVIEW COMPETITION!

This week’s challenge is to write a book review. You need to tell us (briefly) what the book is about, what you like about it, what other books it reminds you of and whether you would recommend it to a friend.

The winner will win a prize and be announced in assembly on Friday 7th December.

On Tuesday, the 13th of November, Trent and Fleet trekked up to the Sutton Life Centre to learn about the dangers of trains.

To begin with, they took a quiz about what they already knew about trains. Afterwards, the children were split into three groups and guided to each of the three different stations. In the train simulator, the groups watched a clip of how to behave on a train and its platform. When the groups went to the train scene, they had to spot the many dangerous things the little figures were doing. Also, they had an informative discussion about the subject.

After all that, they completed the same quiz they started with, “obviously” improving on their scores. Most of the year sixes did improve their scores with some managing to get full marks! WOW!

The children really enjoyed their trip to Sutton Life Centre and were overjoyed by the fact that they might be going again soon!
