Harriet Tubman was born in March 1822.


1828 She grew up in slavery getting water from the river


1828: Her father took her into the forest to show her the birds and tell her about the moss.


Teenage Time: She was now old enough to work on the fields.


Teenage Time: A man escaped and Harriet was told to go and chase him. She didn't so she got a big rock threw at her head.


1844: Harriet Tubman married a black free man called John Tubman


Sept 17 1849: She escaped, travelling day and night, avoiding slave catchers, for weeks to a non-slavery state: pencilvania. Her brothers went with her, but quickly changed their minds and came back.


1850: She went back to her slavery place to get her family away from it. They safely arrived in pencilvania weeks later.


1851: Harriet Divorced John Tubman and he was later

murdered by a white man Robert Vincert in 1867.


1869: Harriet Tubman married Nelson Davis


1874: Harriet adopted a girl called Gertie Davis.


Later in life: Harriet kept on going back to rescue slaves and

rescued over 70 people. She also divorced Nelson Davis.


March 10 1913: Harriet Tubman died. She was

buried at fort hill cemetery.

Harriet Tubman was one of the most courageous and determined freedom fighters in U.S. history. She rose from a childhood of abuse by slaveholders to emancipate herself, and she risked her life repeatedly to liberate others.
