ABOUT EARTH

Earth is named after Earth, the mother of the mountains, valleys, streams and all other land formations. She was married to Uranus. Our home planet Earth is a rocky, terrestrial planet. A terrestrial planet is one of the planets in the inner solar system. It has a solid surface with plains, canyons, valleys, mountains and so much more. Earth is special because it is an ocean planet. As water covers 70% of Earth's surface,it looks mostly blue. Our atmosphere is made mostly of nitrogen and has plenty of oxygen for us to breathe. The atmosphere also protects us from meteoroids, most of which break up in our atmosphere before they can strike the surface as meteorites.

Earth is the fifth largest of the planets in our solar system, it is smaller than the other rocky planets;Mercury,Venus and Mars.

Earth is in the 'Goldilocks Zone'.The Goldilocks Zone refers to the habitable zone around a star where the temperature is just right.

The Earth travels around the Sun.The path Earth follows is an orbit. Our planet takes 365 days to make a full trip around the sun. We call a trip around the sun a year.Earth spins as it travels around the sun. Earth makes a full spin once every 24 hours. We call this a day.

Earth has seasons because it is tilted to a side. The side which is closer will have summer or spring. The side which is is further away will experience winter or autumn.around the sun. We call one trip around the sun a year. Earth spins as it travels around the sun. Earth makes a full spin once every 24 hours. We call this a day.
