5th May - The Song of the Banana Man by Evan Jones.
On 5th May 1494, Christopher Columbus was the first European to reach Jamaica. As with many places Columbus,what was good for the Spanish Empire was not so good for the first people of Jamaica, who were soon subject to oppression by the Spanish. Evan Jone's poem is a modern song of Jamaican identity and national pride.
