VIKING LONGSHIPS

Viking ships were used in battle because of there slender size. They were long and light so they could move around quickly. The sails were square but if there was no wind they would be round. Depending on size, there could be 24 to 50 oars. At the front of the ship, there could either be a snake head or a dragon head. Small rowing boats were carried on board of the main ship , so when they get closer to land they jump into the small boat they can investigate without risking the main boat. The biggest boat could be upto 30 miteres and could carry 60 men. The ships were made of oak wood wich was verry light. Also ,the sail was made of woven wool which was brightly pattened. There where several different long boat ships.
