The R.M.S. Titanic

No picture can tell you just how

enormous the R.M.S. Titanic was.

On the 10th of April 1912 the Royal Maiden

Steamer, the Titanic set sail with about

2435 passengers and a crew of 900. It was

52,310 tonnes heavey and was 269 metres

in length. Built in Belfast, this magnificent

vessel was to sail from Southampton to

New York

Sadly, after only 5 days of sailing, the Titanic sunk in the North Atlantic ocean.

In the cold Atlantic lies a ship, once

called unsinkable, but now a decrepit

wreck over 100 years old. When it was first

built there were 840 rooms: 416 1st class,

162 2nd class rooms and 262 3rd class rooms,

now all sunk and destroyed at the bottom

of the ocean.

Because nobody thought the Titanic

would sink, there were about half the

amount of lifeboats there should have been.

Because they were on the top deck and were

a bigger priority to the crew, 35% of first class

passengers survived but third class weren't so

lucky as only 24% of those survived.
