17-10-16

VERBS - Doubling the final letter, when adding 'ed' or 'ing'.

Tested words are underlined

Vowels - a, e, i, o, u.

Generally, if the verb ends with a single vowel plus a consonant (e.g. stop), then you need to double the final consonant before adding -ed and -ing:

stop, stopped, stopping

tap, tapped, tapping

sob, sobbed, sobbing

travel, travelled, travelling

cancel, cancelled, cancelling

refer, referred, referring

admit, admitted, admitting

We DO NOT double w, x or y at the end of words:

play – playing, played.

snow - snowing, snowed.
