Le words Homework (Week commencing 15 January 2018)

We are going to try and learn some words that end in le. The le sounds a bit like ul

Sometimes we double the consonant before the le e.g. little, beetle, paddle, puzzle.

Some of you might want to know why?

We double up the letters after a short vowel sound. See the examples before.

idle and middle

idle is a long vowel sound so it has a single consonant -dle

middle is a short vowel sound so we have a double consonant -ddle.

maple and apple

maple has a long vowel sound so spelt -ple

apple is a short vowel sound so -pple

Both these examples have single vowels but one vowel is long the other short.

Google and goggle

google oo is long so -ggle

goggle o is short so –gle (and in goggle-box and goggle-eyed)

Task: Below I have listed the words we have been looking at in class and set this chilli challenge for homework. Choose which set of words that you will find manageable. I given you a new strategy that you may want to try it out but feel free to use a variety of the ones you have already had.
