Abasi's story

Abasi is a 10 year old boy living in West Africa. He has three siblings,a mum and a dad. Unfortunately, in the area that he lives in, they do not have healthy and clean water. Unlike other people; Abasi can not have a bath or shower when he wakes up; he can not even have a clean glass of water without walking for several miles; and furthermore when one of his family members gets ill e.g( his dad); he has to skip school and work at the farm- which means he can not get a proper education and when he's older can not get a good job.

Abasi's family worry about a colossall number of things, due to being extremely poor. Living in poverty has a huge effect on their lives because they dont have the basic necessities for a healthy life. Whereas, we take for granted that we always have clean fresh water to drink and wash, families such as Abasi's in West Africa may have to walk for several hours to the nearest river in the scolding hot African sun. The water that they handle is so heavy and back-breacking work, it can take them up to 4 hours to get back home. Moreover, if the mother is ill, Abasi would have to miss school and collect the water. As a young boy, this could take up to a day to do.

Missing school because of one of your parents being ill, due to the dirty water, would feel really fustrating thus you would be behind in your school work. I think Abasi would feel the same, as most people wouldn't like to miss school then catch up on what you have missed out on.

Being Abasi must be really difficult. I would feel envious of all those who can drink and eat freely without the gut feeling of becoming ill. Also I would feel very determined to solve most of the problems that they have and help as much as possible.

Overall Abasi and his family are very unfortunate living in poor conditions ( poverty). However they must be very strong to survive all the illnesses and problems.
