Charlotte McIntosh

In 1881 David McIntosh died and his widow Charlotte ran Marshalls Estate.Charlotte was a very keen agriculturalist(a farmer).She was also the very first lady president of the Essex agricultural society.During the first world war and the years after,Marshalls was used as a resting place for servicemen who served in the first world war.Charlotte was very dedecated to many charities, she was the President of the League of Mercy and many others.She was really interested in the work of the British Red Cross and the Romford Cottage Hospital in Pettits Lane so she decided to turn Marshalls into a hostel(hotel)and it was named by the War Office the 'Sir Launcelot A Fletchers Recuperative Hostel'.
