The end of term is near but the children at Ashmount are still busy little bees! Last week was full of sports as first of all the Athletics team took part in the Islington Outdoor Athletics Championship contested by 15 Islington schools at Parliament Hill Fields Athletics Track.

In conditions which were more like November the children performed excellently in the individual and team formats and eventually saw us finish in an agonising 2nd place to winners St Joan Of Arc Primary School by 2 points. Consistent performances from our relay teams gave them all a place in their finals with the girls 60m Shuttle team and mixed 100m teams both finishing second.

We also had some fantastic individual effort notably from Na’kajah and Kalvin who both won Gold in the Girls 60m and Boys Long Jump. Also mentions to Sid who came 2nd in the Cricket Ball Throw, Han and Tanya who came third in the Boys 800m and Girls Cricket Ball Throw and Ella who came 4th in the Girls Long Jump.

Of course we would all wanted to win, but I was over the moon with the results and how the children have developed this year. It was also nice that our departing Deputy Head, Amy was in tow, and she remarked how proud she was of the children, and I know they all dedicated their performances to her, and desperately wanted to win for her. However with 12 of the 20 children in year 5, if we continue to develop, practice and learn there is no reason why we cannot go one step better next year.

Squad :- Cory, Kalvin, Eloim, Zoe, Tanya, Molly, Na’kajah, Rasharna, Han, Stephane, Harry, Sid, Kayvon, Caleb, Diago, Millie, Henrietta, Thora, Jodie, and Ella.
