SPRING EDITION

..

World Book Day was a huge success! It was lovely to see so many children dressed up as book characters or wearing their comfy clothes to curl up with a good book! Each class raised money to supplement books into their own class libraries!

It was great to have Katie in school with her lovely Usborne Book Fair. She loved meeting all of the classes. Wee earnt two free books for every class too! Thank you Katie.

Our New Library is now open!

On World Book Day we launched the opening of our new school library! It was amazing to see children enjoying this lovely new reading environment and choosing books to take home!

THE VALUE OF READING ALOUD TO PRACTISE FLUENCY

Reading Fluency is the foundation for reading success. Fluency is about reading with smoothness and expression at an appropriate speed. Research shows that when children are able to read aloud fluently, they are more likely to comprehend what they are reading.

In order to help our children become fluent readers, we need to model reading fluency. World Book Day is the perfect opportunity for us to read aloud to the children so that they can hear what good fluency sounds like. There are links above to audio and video books but regular opportunities for children to hear adults around them reading with fluency should be seized! The gains to our children will be enormous.
