Carnival?

The Rio Carnival was started in the 1600, tomcelebrate the Greek gods.In 1840 the first masaquerade took place , with polka and waltzing.It is also though to have started from working Portuguese people dressing up in fancy clothes and throwing lime-scented water at each other to mock the rich.

How do they celebrate?

The Rio Carnival is celebrated five days before Ash Wednesday.There is a samba parade and huge floats.There is lots of singing and dancing.

Food

At the time of the Rio

Carnival, there is street stalls

selling food.There is barbecued

meat, pao de queijo ( balls of

cheesy bread)pastels ( deep fried

pastries) or empadas (pies) which are

filled with meat, cheese or shrimp.

Music

In 1920 to 1960 the most

popular music was called

Cabeleira Do Zeze, but it

is played at the street parties.

The type of music that is

played is samba. Samba

was introduced to the

Brazilians by the Africans.
