Has anyone ever died in space? As of 2018, there have been 18 astronaut
and cosmonaut fatalities during spaceflight. Astronauts have also died while training for space
missions, such as the Apollo 1 launch pad fire which killed an entire crew of three. There have
also been some non-astronaut fatalities during spaceflight-related activities.
What is in space besides planets and stars? Most of
the universe is empty space, called a vacuum,
but it is an imperfect vacuum. There are clouds of interstellar dust and the
tiny particles that make up the solar wind. ... Radio, heat, and x-rays all echo through space,
as do beams of light.
How old is space?13.8 billion yearsThis information helps astronomers determine the age of the universe. Age may only be a number,
but when it comes to the age of the universe, it's a pretty important one. According to research, the
universe is approximately 13.8 billion years old.
While the spatial size of the entire Universe is unknown, it is possible to measure the size of
the observable universe, which is currently estimated to be 93 billion light years in diameter.
What does space smell like? When astronauts return from space walks and remove their helmets, they are welcomed back
with a peculiar smell. An odor that is distinct and weird: something, astronauts have described it,
like "seared steak." And also: "hot metal." ... Add to that the fact that ethyl formate itself smells
like rum.
As you probably know, space is already very, very cold — roughly 2.7 Kelvin (-270.45 Celsius,
-454.81 Fahrenheit). This is mostly due to a lack of atmosphere and the vacuum-like nature
of space — with very few molecules to energetically bounce around, there can be no heat.
