First swimming lesson with my class

On our first swimming day everyone was very excited and just couldn’t wait to start swimming. Our teacher, Becca, told us that at lunchtime she would call us to get our stuff ready so we could get going. While we were waiting for the bus we sorted out our partners for the ride to the pool. I was with Louie and we were talking to our teacher and my friend Nico who were behind us.

Soon, we got off the bus and moments later we were in the Caledonian Road Cally Pool. Our teacher told the boys to get changed in one room and the girls in another. When we were finished we were supposed to get some water on ourselves. Then one of our swimming instructors talked to us about rules and stuff. In order to divide us into three groups (beginner, intermediate and advanced) she asked us some questions like “Can you swim without floats?” and asked us to stand up if we could. I was one of the people who stood up. Before long she had figured out the groups, and I had made it to the advanced one.

Then came another instructor. I realised he was going to be working with us for at least that lesson. The first thing he told us to do was to swim one by one to the other side of the swimming pool. When everyone had finished he asked us to backstroke all the way to the other side of the swimming pool. I actually didn’t do the backstroke and I thought it must have been because he had thought I had already done it or something. When everyone was out of the pool I realised that the lesson had finished, and in my opinion the lesson was quite short.

After we changed back to our school uniforms, we went to the bus stop and caught the 91 bus. In the end we arrived at school realising we were about 20 minutes late. I really liked the lesson at Cally Pool and I’m looking forward to the next one (my second ever proper swimming lesson!).
