The issue we are discussing is whether to build a new and extensive housing estate near the River Towy.
I think that the housing estate plan should have the 'go ahead' and we should start building as soon as possible because the sooner we start building, the sooner the estate will be finished and the sooner we can get people of the streets and into a warm home.
The reasons for me thinking this are, firstly it is a known fact that the percentage of homeless people living in Carmarthenshire is rising. In fact, new figures show that Carmarthenshire has gone from sixth to fifth with the most newly homeless people in Wales and we do not want to be known as the town that left their citizens on the cold streets. NO! We want to be known as the town that got those citizens into warm home as fast as possible and this housing estate will solve this problem and give those citizens those opportunities.
Secondly, everybody knows that in this day and age, it is more than difficult to get a well paying job. But, for such a massive housing estate plan, there would be more than enough jobs for electricians, refurnishers, architects, carpenters, painters, engineers, plasterers, builders, interior designers, retailers, etc. And we can give the rate of unemployment in Carmarthenshire a real boost.
In addition, we will also be building a brand new school so that we can provide the children living in the estate with an excellent education. This would also provide jobs for cooks and teachers. So building this housing estate will not only bring down the rate of homeless people living out on the cold street, it will also bring down the rate of unemployment, and that's exactly how it should be!
Another reason for me thinking this is, that there is another issue that could be solved by building this housing estate and that is over crowded homes. 5% of people and 2 1/2 % of homes in Carmarthenshire live in over crowded conditions. If this housing estate plan gets the 'go ahead' I can assure you that these homes will be reasonably priced and it will make it that bit easier to relieve the problem of those overcrowded homes.
In conclusion, I believe that these arguments clearly show that if we build this housing estate we can solve so many problems and make Carmarthenshire a better place.
