Islington Primary Swimming Finals

Ashmount’s swimmers came away with a clutch of medals from the Finals which were held at Ironmonger Row swimming baths. Having reached 11 of the 18 finals we were quietly confident of some success but also aware how tough the competition would be. First up were our year 5’s, which saw both Bella (Breaststroke) and Luca (Backstroke) just fall short of a medal place. Our first medal arrived in stunning fashion as Han won the freestyle in a thrilling race which had all the spectators on the edge of their seats.

Millie unfortunately couldn't match Han in the equivalent race for girls and came 5th, and also saw Iva just pipped in the Backstroke final. Double Silver medals followed for both Bobby (Backstroke) and Sid (Breaststroke), who narrowly missed out on Gold.

With the individual events over it was the turn of the relay teams. The year 5 girls and boys teams in the 4x1 medley couldn't gain a top three finish, but then the year 6 girls 4 x 1 medley team of Ella, Jodie, Mille and Iva secured a bronze medal and that was matched by the mixed 6 x 1 freestyle team of Iva, Mille, Jodie, Han, Harry and Bobby who also finished third to cap off a very good night. Overall we finished fourth of the 15 schools so a very pleasing position and something we can hope to build on next year.
