Stop! Wait a minute...

No, this is NOT about Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars making yet another big hit like Up Town Funk was!! It's about England and other countries agreeing to stop fighting in the war-torn country, Syria.

This means that they have decided to put a stop to acts of warfare in Syria as quickly as possible. The "breakthrough" has been described as a "pause" to all the fighting and a major first step.

As a result of all the horrific fighting going on at the moment, 250,000 people have been killed, and millions of people have fled, sparking up the huge refugee crisis that is touching people all over the world.

This decision was made by the ISSG (International Syria Support Group), which is made up of 17 different countries including the UK, Arab League, the EU and United Nations (UN).

US Secretary of State John Kerry announced the news of the “nationwide cessation” (an end to the fighting) early this morning (Friday 12 February). It is hoped that the new truce, which will be implemented as of next week, will allow humanitarian aid through Syria, where many innocent people are in need of help. Leaders also hope it will restart peace talks.
