Why Do Unsupported Objects Fall

Unsupported objects fall

because we have a force on earth called gravity which pulls every object on earth towards the centre of the earth (the earths core).

If you had a hammer and a feather which would fall quicker?

The hammer would fall quicker on earth but on the moon it is different because it depends on the air in the atmosphere. It depends on the air because of air resistance. Air resistance is where if you have a feather for example it will fall slower than a hammer because of it's wide body which gathers air underneath and causes air resistance. If there was no air in our atmosphere we couldn't breath but also all objects including feathers would all fall at the same speed.

Meteor

Earth

When you see a meteor shooting past the earth it is actually being pulled towards it. The mass of a meteor is smaller then the mass of the Earth so the gravitational pull of both the objects is either more or less depending on it's mass. The meteor and the Earth play a game of tug of war and the Earth would win and pull the meteor into it and make it hit the Earth and pull towards the core of the earth.
