Year 5 is full of talented pupils!

James Adams Phillips was 1st in the Urdd Computer Graphics competition.

During the Urdd National Swimming finals, Max Elkin, a talented Y5 swimmer, was 3rd in the 50 metre Butterfly Stroke and was 2nd in the 100 metres Individual Medley. Well done to Sophie Spragg who represented the girls in the Individual Medley.

Good luck to all six Y5 pupils who have just taken clarinet and flute Grade 1 exams.

Thank you to all Y5 pupils who took part in the Three Counties Cross Country.

I represented Johnstown School in the solo disco dance competition. I danced for a maximum of two minutes and wore a silk blue leotard with a red net tutu. When my name was called to do my routine, I went backstage. There were four other girls competing against me in the competition. I felt excited, as well as slightly nervous because the girl that had performed first was extremely talented. I did not know whether I even had a chance.

After performing I eagerly waited to hear the results. Finally, the time came where the announcer informed the audience that I had come in 2nd place for the Disco Dance. I was filled with joy because I had never been placed in the top three for any dance competition in the past.

I would like to experience this opportunity again in the very near future. Maybe I could even get 1st place next time.

In the Parti Llefaru competition on Wednesday 2nd of March 2016, a small group of Year 6 pupils went to represent Johnstown Primary School in St Peters Civic Hall in Carmarthen, for the 'Rhanbarth Lleol' round of the Urdd Eisteddfod Competition.

We competed really well and tried our best. As we went onto the stage I think we all got a little case of the butterflies. A gentleman announced our school's name and we were ready to go. We pronounced with great enthusiasm and spoke very clearly. Model School, from Carmarthen, came first but we were placed a well-deserved second place. A very warm thank you to all the teachers who helped us prepare for this occasion.

Creative Cooking

On Wednesday 2nd March a group of chidren( Sophie, Sinead, Dan B, Ruby, Trinity, Mia, Emily G and Abby) went to St Peter's hall to compete in a competition in the Urdd. We were up against two schools( Richmond park and Model). Our performance was in unison and enthusiastic, and because of that we were placed in 1st position.

As the judges announced our names as the winners, we were over the moon and everybody was screaming at the tops of our voices. All the hard had work paid off. Because of our successes we will be traveling up to Ysgol Griffith Jones and competing against different areas of Carmarthenshire. A big thank you to miss Harris for training us..

The cooking competition took place in the cognitive cabin on the 22nd January. A group of Year 5 pupils competed in the morning and a group of Year 6 in the afternoon. Our faithful judges were Mr. Tom Pointon, our school governor and Mrs Wilcox. They gave the competitors their scores and tasted each dish of food with high expectations. The dish we had to prepare was a Greek salad. We had to buy and bring in our own food and practise, practise, practise! During the competition, we had ten minutes to wash and chop our ingredients and a further one hour to complete and present our dishes to the judges. Our lucky winner was a Year 6 female competitor, whose picture is below. Well done to all who competed and another thank you to the judges.

The second round took place in the welsh high school called Bro Myrddin. There the competitors had to make crêpes with a sweet or savoury filling. The winner from Johnstown decided to fill their crêpes with Chantilly cream and blueberries. Then the competitors also had to prepare and make minestrone soup. There were 8 finalists all together from all around Carmarthen. During the competition the cooks were really nervous because they didn't think that the judges would rate their food. However, they all still enjoyed the experience and creating new recipes. This was a learning curve for for each of them.

Ymom is Welsh Drama for between two and four people. In my drama group there were three children and myself. We were acting out a scene about two girls wanting to compete in the Eisteddfod.

There was three groups competing. Two from Johnstown and one from Model. When we were on stage I felt a little nervous as well as very excited. There were lots of people in the audience. When we went on the stage all the eyes fell on us. I felt a little disappointed when the result was called out but, was proud of our achievements.

Llefaru means reciting a poem. My poem was about monsters inside your belly shouting "FEED ME!''

I very much enjoy Welsh and the Eisteddfod. The man said, "When you're ready," and suddenly words just came out of my mouth, whoosh!

When I came off the stage I felt glad that I performed it. The butterflies in my belly had gone. I was so proud of myself.
