Charles Darwin Biography














Charles was born on the 12th of February 1809. He was brought up in a family of 6 children. They were a Christian family but free thinking and open to new ideas. One of his grand parents was an anti-slavery campaigner.

Darwin loved nature and became known as a naturalist as he got older.






After leaving his studies as a medic in 1827 he decided to study to have the career in the church. Even though he wasn't keen on the idea he didn't know what else to do. But he didn't know that coming ahead of him was an opportunity of a life time.


In 1831 he received an amazing invite to go on a trip around the world on the HMS Beagle as the ships naturalist.

He was free to explore South

America and it's islands including

the Galapagos. (pictured left)



He found fossils of extinct animals that were similar to modern species
