Plastic Pollution

Plastic is not so fantastic

Most of the people in the world use plastic which doesn't help the ocean! Most of the plastic gets dumped on beaches by humans, then when the tide comes in all the plastic is swept into the ocean. It floats along in the water while the sun is shining on it. This is very bad for turtles because they think plastic bags are jellyfish and they eat it up and then they die sadly.

Facts about plastic pollution

  • Plastic is very bad for the ocean because sea creatures mistake it for food and eat it up.
  • 3 million tonnes of plastic is made every year.
  • 1,0000 pieces of plastic are used every minute.
  • 90% of the trash in our oceans is plastic.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

We all can help to stop plastic pollution from harming our planet including the sea creatures. There are lots of ways to help including:

  • Using lunchboxes instead of plastic bags and clingfilm.
  • Buying a reusable bag and to not keep on buying plastic bags from the shops.
  • To stop buying plastic drink bottles containing fizzy drinks and water and instead buy a reusable one.
  • To take our rubbish home if we've been somewhere and then recycle it.
  • To recycle any plastic used.
