Black History Month is an annual birthday celebration of achievements through African Americans and a time for recognizing their central position in U.S. History. Also referred to as African American History Month, the occasion grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of cited historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, each U.S. President has formally precise the month of February as Black History Month. Other international locations around the sector, inclusive of Canada and the UK, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.
