The Hobbit

The Hobbit is a classic fantasy adventure, written by the incredible J.R.R. Tolkien in 1937, and is one of the most successful and popular children's books ever.

It tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, a quiet and unassuming "respectable" Hobbit, and his journey through a land called Middle Earth, as he finds himself caught up in a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon.

The lovely Bilbo is accompanied on his journey by Gandalf the wandering wizard; Thorin Oakenshield, rightful King of Erebor; and twelve other dwarves. Throughout Bilbo's adventure, he encounters all manner of other beings: Elves and Dwarves, Wizards and Goblins, the small, slimy Gollum and a dragon, of course – and he is fascinated (and sometimes terrified!) by all them. Bilbo battles bravely when needed, but will he and his companions defeat the dragon?
