ANIMALS ON MOUNTAINS!

African wild dog

The scientific name for the African Wild dog means “painted wolf”. No two wild dogs have the same markings, which makes them easily identifiable as individuals.

Andean mountain cat

Andean cat is one of the rarest species of wild cats in the world.

Bulbul

The male will typically feed the female as she incubates her eggs, which takes up to 12 days, on average.

Brown bear

Brown bears can be recognized by their most distinctive feature, their shoulder hump.

Alpaca

The hair of the alpaca is called 'fleece' or 'fiber' rather than 'fur' or 'wool.

Poaching the animals for their fur has declined due to strict laws and greater public awareness of the panda’s protected status.

High mountains are a bleak habitat for animal life. Food is scarce and the climate is very cold. Mammals living here have adapted to survive the bitter cold and most have thick woolly fur. Mountain sheep and goats like the chamois and ibex are very sure-footed to help them climb the jagged, craggy slopes.
