Learning in Year 4!

We have been learning lots of exciting things over the past few weeks, we feel we have achieved a lot and want to share our work with you!

Maths

In Maths we have looked at how to calculate the answers to problems which 2 steps involved.

For example:

Florence has 12 packets of Haribo, 16 packets of fruit pastels and 2 packets of crisps. She gives away 1 packet of each to 7 people. How many packets does she have left?

To calculate the answer we have to use certain steps, which are:

Read the question carefully

Understand what methods the question is asking you to do.

underline the key parts of the problem.

calculate the answers

check the answer at the end.

The answer to this problem would be- 12+16+2= 30

30-7= 23...So she is left with 23 packets (how lucky!)

We have also looked at decimal numbers- We have had to add decimal numbers together. We have been using column addition to help us as a written method.

#Tip- always make sure your digits are lined up in the correct column, including your decimal point.

English

In our English we have written stories which focused on building up a problem and then resolving at the end.

Hannah- My story was called 'The big fat tests' - it was a story where my character Emily hates tests so she decides to destroy all the tests before they take place. Unfortunately she gets caught which is a massive problem!

What do you think happened to her??? Leave your comments!

' I really enjoyed writing my story because there was a moral to my story'

'I made my story exciting by adding in similes which I am good at'

Florence- My story was about a boy called Acorn who is very shy. He does not tell anyone about how he is bullied at school- he doesn't want people to know. But then the bullies get so bad and the problem gets much worse!

What do you think will happen to Acorn? Leave your comments!

'I enjoyed writing this story because I really used my imagination'

' I am very good at using strong adjective choices'

Art

In our Art lessons we have been creating pictures of Mary, Jesus' mother. We drew her in our own individual way.

Florence- I sketched my drawing then coloured it in using paint and pastels.

Do you like them?

Hannah- I used paint to create my image of Mary.Tell me what you think!

Our Achievements

Florence- I entered the poetry competition and managed to reach the finals! I wrote my own poem called 'keep the secret'.

Hannah- I received an exemplary work award for my maths work when calculating division questions!

TRIPS

In Year 4 we went on a trip to central London. We got an open top bus to see all the amazing sites of the city!

Florence- My favourite site was the Gerkin!

Hannah- I enjoyed seeing St.Pauls cathedral!
