Dinner?

I was taking a short stroll through the muddy woods when I came across a mysterious, upside down, floating gingerbread house. I started thinking about how I could get to the door and check if anyone was home but the sweet smell of gingerbread and the beautifully decorated walls distracted me and made my stomach rumble... I was hypnotised by the treat and just had to take a bite. It tasted like a dessert that you would get at a posh restaurant (it was delicious!) but I soon realised that the food had an unexpected taste in it. Suddenly, I heard a small voice which shouted “Oi you! Would you be a good human and get me out of this wall?” I couldn’t believe what was happening “Are you listening to me, you seem more focused on being shocked!” I couldn’t tell if my eyes were playing odd tricks on me when I saw that a piece of broccoli was alive and talking! That certainly explained the peculiar taste. I tugged at the broccoli until it was free and I curiously asked “What and who are you?”

“Can’t you see, I’m a broccoli! But I ain’t any old broccoli, I’m a key.”

“Um... ok ...” I was very confused.

“And just so you know I’m only fifty years out of date.” I pulled a disgusted face as I heard that but the broccoli just chuckled.

“Now, I need to get inside that gingerbread house!” demanded the broccoli.

“But what if there are people in there!”

“Trust me, if anyone was here they would smell my old stench and move out.”

“True, very true.” I held the broccoli in my hand as I climbed the sugary walls. I hopped through the sugar glass window and I was in. “There’s the door!” shouted the smelly broccoli. “One question Mr broccoli thingy.”

“Oh what do you want now?”

“How are you a key if you are a piece of broccoli?”

“I transform, look at me.” The veggie began to create a warm amber glow and turned into a broccoli key with a lovely frying pan key ring “Nice key ring!” I commented.

“Everyone says that.” The key hopped in the lock and the door creaked open.

Behind the gingerbread door was something that should only be in my head... it was my bonkers, crazy, weird mind! I would recognise this anywhere, aliens were shooting out of upside down volcanoes and the lava stayed put! There was also a pig unicorn, smartly dressed and riding a unicycle, a raving cake, a performing can of whipped cream, a face-painting giraffe and 4 partying ‘in game’ characters all having fun with the aliens!

I questioned the broccoli key about how the lava was staying up there but the only answer that I got was “It ain’t staying still mate.” It started slowly dripping like a broken shower. I wasn’t looking up to see what was happening, all I saw were little blobs of sizzling, red, thick liquid falling around me and suddenly I heard the sound of bubbling, boiling lava above my head...
