November 10th - National Remembrance Assembly from the Tower of London.

Today, all the children were able to watch a special Remembrance Assembly which was broadcast from the Tower of London by Discovery Education (providers of Espresso). This was an international event which was available to schools not just in the UK but in the USA and Canada also.

The assembly focused on engaging content suitable for schools across the UK and beyond. Highlights included interviews and articles of relevance to Remembrance Day and a special guest appearance by the man behind the amazing poppies installation at the Tower of London, Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red.

The installation, by the artists Paul Cummins and Tom Piper, consists of 888,246 ceramic poppies, one for each British and Colonial fatality during the Great War, stretching around the dry moat of the Tower of London. Following its unveiling at the Tower on the 5 August, volunteers from all over the UK, as well as all over the world, have planted the poppies each day to ensure that all 888,246 are in place by the time for the culmination of the installation on Armistice Day, 11 November 2014. The work was commissioned by the independent charity, Historic Royal Palaces.
