Hyphens

What is a hypen?

The hyphen is a punctuation mark, used to separate sentences and to separate syllables of a single word. They are not as commen today, as they used to be, but people still use them sometimes.

How is it used?

1. In compound words.

2. To join prefexes to other words.

3. To show word breaks.

4. Also, sometimes if you are typing and there is not enough room on the line to write the full word, you can write some of the word, put a hyphen in the middle, and write the rest of the word on the next line.

5. Hyphens are ofen used to tell the ages of people and things.e.g We have a two-year-old child, or we have a two-year-old.
