He changes because in the start of the story he was scared about Skellig because Michael in the end of the story is happy and greatful because he has a baby sister and he is back at school

i think he is worried about Skellig at the start because he has never saw a human being living in his garage also he had to worry about his baby sister because she was born many months early which made Michael very worried and he has his friends teasing him
